Born as an internal division of Weltronics, Powertran’s initial responsibility was to design and manufacture transformers needed for their automotive welding systems and controllers.

Through the 50s, 60s, and 70s, Powertran became one of Weltronics’ most trusted internal strengths, known for transformers that formed the backbone of demanding welding systems. In the early 1980s, when vertical integration fell out of fashion, Weltronics sold Powertran to two ambitious electrical industry professionals. They recognized Powertran’s engineering depth and reliability—not just as a division, but as a foundation for something larger.
